Photographed by Madhava  Hair by Seto McCoy “Re-Werk It” is an ongoing style segment in which some very stylish NYC bloggers have been given the test of re-working 1 piece from their closet 3 different ways. Proving to us, that it’s not about what you have in your closet, but how you work it. Or shall we say, “Re-Werk It.”   Challenge Item: Leather Jacket AB: Tell us about your blog. SC: My blog is called Fashion of a Novice and it’s predominantly about fashion, but I also include a lifestyle aspect, including a look into some activities, festivals, and events I go to. I started my blog in February 2012, so about 3 1/2 years. I actually started with Lookbook.nu first and got convinced to start an actual blog from the feedback I received on Lookbook. AB: Where are you from? SC: I’m from Nashville, Tennessee. I moved to New York because I got signed to a modeling agency! I happen to be into fashion, so moving here was always the goal anyway. Now I live in Brooklyn! I love it because it’s chill, but not too chill. It has everything without going into the city, but it’s not as […]

How To Shop Without Going Broke

by Alex Berrocal· September 28, 2015· in Trends· 0 comments tags: budget, fashion, nyc, shopping, streetstyle, theknowitalls, trend
Photo Courtesy of Tales from the Thrift Whoever said diamonds were a girl’s best friend must have never knew the relationship between a woman and her closet. It’s a love that runs deep—well deep into the bottom of our pockets that is. With sky high NYC rent, school loans, and bills, that hardly leaves us with enough money to fulfill our womanly shopping desires. In a perfect world, Prada & Gucci pieces would fall effortlessly from the sky landing perfectly nestled in our closets…free of charge of course. But until that glorious day, Christina, Tales From The Thrift style blogger is teaching us how to score some awesome pieces while still managing to pay our rent on time. What’s your blog about? My blog is about looking good on a budget. The majority of my posts feature outfits I put together using thrifted, secondhand/swapped, sale and gifted pieces. I’m a big believer in style not being solely about how much money you spend, but how you can make the most out of what you have. How did you get into thrifting? I started thrifting a lot when I first moved to NYC after college. Basically, I wasn’t prepared for just […]

Photographed by Meah Denee This year marks Houston native, Chinaza Moses’ first collection shown during NYFW. The origami inspired capsule collection was shown at The Holy Apostles Ballroom in Chelsea. Seven years design experience under her belt, the FIT graduate has worked for many prominent companies including both Alice & Olivia and Elle 360. Eclectic and chic, Chinaza successfully manages to emit a sweet simplicity in such complex pieces. Moses’ collection was a wearable work of true art. Each piece was white, delicately designed with soft structured fabric origami pieces, sheer accents, and paper origami headpieces. The designer mixed elements of both couture and streetstyle, pairing the elegant garments with origami adorned white sneakers.

NYFW | Designer Anna Hieronymus

Photo courtesy of Anna Hieronymus This NYFW Hieronymus launched its A/W 2015 collection by designer, Anna Hieronymus. The namesake label, is a NYC and Berlin based contemporary sportswear and accessories brand. Inspired by elements of art, music, philosophy and science, Hieronymus alludes to futurism while maintaining strong streetwear roots. I was able to steal a few moments with Anna to get a first hand look into her debut line. With the turnout for the Hieronymus NYFW launch party, it was hard to believe this was the first collection. The venue was sort of like an underground club that you could only enter after you said the secret password to the bouncer guy hiding behind a large door and a tiny sliding peep hole. It was pretty amazing. Turning down the urge to shake a tail feather we passed the DJ and headed straight to the next room for the Hieronymus installation. Soft neoprene structured sweatshirts hung from the ceiling surrounded by reflective mirror panels, turning out to be a pretty popular impromptu photo booth. Waves of stitching ran through each garment, which Anna explained, imitated the unseen digital waves (wifi, cellular, etc.) intersecting, surrounding, and passing through us. The capsule collection […]
